Page content in AI answers

Overview

The widget can give AI a snapshot of the page the visitor is viewing. Visitors can ask “Summarize this page” or “Explain this product” without pasting the text. This complements your knowledge base: the snapshot describes the current page, while the knowledge base provides broader information.

Steps

  1. Go to Chat → Configurations and Edit your widget.
  2. Under Additional Settings, enable Use Page Content for AI Answers. It is off by default for tenant widgets.
  3. Click Update Configuration and reload the page containing your widget.
  4. Ask the AI to summarize or explain that page. An AI chat step must be configured for the conversation.
  5. Navigate to another page and ask again. Each AI message uses a fresh snapshot, including navigation within the same browser page.

What is shared

The snapshot contains the page address without query parameters or fragments, its title, and up to 12,000 characters of relevant rendered text. Main content or articles are preferred. Navigation, forms and their values, editable content, hidden sections, and the widget itself are excluded. Visible personal information in ordinary page text needs an explicit exclusion. Enable this setting only on pages whose content you want shared with AI.

Snapshots are reference material rather than verified product facts or instructions. They do not authorize bookings, workflow calls, account access, or other actions. The snapshot is not inserted as a separate chat message or reused as the current page on later turns. Supplied text can appear in AI prompt diagnostics, and summaries can appear in the conversation history.

Exclude private content

Ask your web developer to mark any section that must be excluded:

<section data-atomicx-private>
  Private account information
</section>

To exclude the whole page, add this attribute to its body (or its html element):

<body data-atomicx-page-context="off">

The same attribute can exclude individual sections. To stop page snapshots for the widget, disable Use Page Content for AI Answers, save, and reload.

Tips and limits

  • Atom, the AtomicX Chat application assistant, has page context enabled by default. Tenant widgets keep their own setting.
  • Long pages may be partial. Images, PDFs, embedded frames, and content inside shadow roots are not read by this text snapshot.
  • This feature supplies the current page's text. It does not browse an arbitrary URL entered in chat.
  • If there is no usable page text, the assistant uses its existing instructions and knowledge base. Paste the relevant text if necessary.
  • Page snapshots accompany normal AI messages. Human handoff and confirmed workflow collection keep their existing behavior; the next normal AI message captures the current page again.
