Export and import workflows
Overview
You can save any workflow as a file and bring it back later. Use this to keep a backup before a big change, copy a workflow between chat setups, or share a proven flow with a colleague.
All export and import options are in the JSON menu at the top of Chat → Workflows:
- View JSON: shows the workflow file's contents in a window, with a Download button.
- Download JSON: saves the current workflow to your computer as a file.
- Edit JSON: opens the full-page JSON Editor for advanced changes.
- Import JSON: adds the nodes from a workflow file to the workflow that's currently selected.
A workflow file includes the workflow's name and description, every node with its settings and position, and all connections. It doesn't include the AI Agent chosen on AI Chat nodes, or any channel settings. You'll need to choose these again after importing.
Steps
Export a workflow
- Go to Chat → Workflows and pick the workflow in Select Workflow:.
- Click Save first so the file includes your latest changes.
- Click JSON → Download JSON. The file is saved with a name like "workflow-customer-support.json".
Import into an existing workflow
- Go to Chat → Workflows and select the workflow you want to add to.
- Click JSON → Import JSON and choose a workflow file.
- AtomicX Chat compares the file with the selected workflow. It matches nodes that have the same name and the same node type.
- Nodes that aren't in your workflow yet are added automatically.
- If a matching node's content is different, the Resolve Merge Conflicts window opens.
- For each conflict, review the Existing and Imported versions side by side, then choose:
- Keep Existing to leave your current node unchanged.
- Use Imported to replace it with the version from the file.
- Keep Both to keep your node and add the imported one with "(imported)" added to its name.
- Once every conflict has a choice, click Apply Merge.
- Review the canvas and click Save.
Import a workflow as a new copy
- Click New Workflow, give it a name, and click Create.
- With the new, empty workflow selected, click JSON → Import JSON and choose the file. All nodes and connections are added.
- Open each AI Chat node, choose the AI Agent again, and click Save.
Edit a workflow file directly (advanced)
- Click JSON → Edit JSON to open the JSON Editor.
- Make your changes. Click Format to tidy the layout, Download to save a copy, or Import to load a file into the editor.
- Click Save. The editor checks the file first and reports any problems.
Saving from the JSON Editor replaces the whole workflow: its name, description, all nodes, and all connections. Download a backup before you save.
Translations in workflow files
Exports include current approved Bulgarian workflow text; other languages are not included and are translated again automatically when needed. Matching translations brought in through an import are saved as drafts, not approvals. Open the workflow's translation review panel, review the imported wording against its English source, then approve each field before using it with visitors.
In a merge, Keep Existing retains your current node; Use Imported or Keep Both can bring matching translations from the file in as drafts. Missing or outdated translations fall back to English. If the workflow is attached to an agent, save the attachment and publish again after reviewing changes. See Chat languages and translations.
Tips
- Give nodes unique, descriptive names. Imports match nodes by name and type, so clear names make merges predictable.
- An AI Chat node's Knowledge Base is kept in the file. If you import into a different account, check that the knowledge base exists there and choose it again if needed.
- If a file can't be read, you'll see an "Invalid JSON" message that explains what's wrong. Your workflow isn't changed.
- Use the breadcrumb or back arrow in the JSON Editor to return to Workflows.
